With summer’s arrival come many wonderful things like breaks in school, adventurous vacations, and lots of fun in the sun. However, for some, summer’s heat brings out something not so enjoyable—migraine headaches. While migraines can attack at any time, many sufferers find them more frequent during the summer due things like higher temperatures, barometric pressure flux, and more. Accidents and illnesses happen every day. For the majority, these minor problems require minimal care and treatment. However, it is important to recognize when a situation requires immediate emergency assistance. Knowing the difference can not only save you time and money, but quite possibly your life. When seeking medical attention, it is important to understand what each service provides.  For example, you wouldn’t go to the emergency room with a common cold, nor would a trip to a family care physician be wise when dealing with severe chest pains. There are 3 different options for care facilities available to patients…

It’s time to talk about that uncomfortable, but necessary procedure we all know—the colonoscopy. Colonoscopies, though they had a bad reputation, are one of the most important procedures a person can have done. Approximately 50,000 people will die per year, due to colorectal cancer. Being the 2nd leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the United States, it is a silent killer that is not to be underestimated. However, that risk can be greatly diminished by getting a routine colonoscopy, starting around age 50. With new medical advances, techniques, and technology being used more frequently, this procedure is now easier and…

When you think of bacteria, what comes to mind—contagious germs, the common cold, disinfectant spray? For some, the word alone strikes fear in their hearts. However, the right kind of internal bacteria in your gut can be more of a friend than a foe. These helpful little microorganisms are known as probiotics and they pack a mighty punch for digestive health! So, what exactly are probiotics? The simplest way to put it—they are living bacteria that promote good health, particularly inside of your digestive system. They work by balancing out the “good” and “bad” bacteria in your gut to keep…
